Extracts From Nature
Colorau™ natural dye process incorporates compounds of natural origin into substrates to produce functional, ecological, and sustainable technology. This technology also focuses on its environmental impact by eliminating potentially toxic effluents generated by synthetic dyestuffs.
The Natural Dye Collection uses only compounds of natural origin – Thyme, Chestnut Tree, Gambier and Morus Tinctoria.

Colorau™ Dyeing Process
The use of low temperatures in the dyeing process and the substitution of traditional auxiliaries with natural occurring alternatives also contribute to the overall process' impacts reduction. There is no sacrifice in color durability, as Colorau™ is focused on natural extracts with inherent color fastness properties that are also antimicrobial. This unique technology is designed to mimic the beauty and authenticity of nature.
Natural Color
Thyme
Thyme is a semi shrub, with flowering stems, small leaves and flowers (pink or white) and a strong and intense aroma.
As a Mediterranean species, it prospers in well drained soils, adapting even on very dry soils. It is a grass weed and may, in pot, be similar to a climbing species It occurs from Western Europe to Southeast Italy and is especially cultivated as a condiment and essential oil, rich in thymol, with appreciable antiseptic power, widely used against lung problems and as a digestive stimulant.
Chestnut Tree
The species that exists in Portugal is also the one that predominates in Europe. There is knowledge and signs of its existence in the Portuguese territory for many centuries, reason why, it is considered to be an indigenous species. However, some believe that it was introduced to the Iberian Peninsula during the Roman era.
The chestnut tree is a deciduous tree that can last more than a thousand years. Its production remains high even at an old age.
Gambier
Gambier is an extract derived from the leaves of Uncaria gambir, a climbing shrub native to tropical Southeast Asia.
Gambier was an important trade item into the late nineteenth century. There are several areas of applications for gambier, such as tanning agent, a brown dye, a food additive and as herbal medicine.
Morus Tinctoria
Morus Tinctoria, is a medium to large tree of the Neotropics. This tree originates in Central America. It produces a yellow dye called fustic.
It is important to add that the route is an aqueous extraction without any chemical aggregate and whose process is also energy efficient since steam and electricity are generated (to a large extent) using the raw materials used once they are extracted as fuel.
